Martha Young MCquilkin
& Jock Mcquilkin
Martha and her husband, Jock, grew up together in New York. One wintry evening after dancing school Jock threw a snowball at Martha. Somehow they were able to transcend this experience to become best friends. Although their paths separated, Fate intervened years later, and the couple reunited and married. Shortly thereafter they launched Whimble Designs in Atlanta, Georgia. This business houses Martha’s fairy beings, the Whimbles, as well as their Companions and Friends who have journeyed here from their own faraway Land of Caelumen.
Having earned both a BA and an MVA, Martha is professionally experienced as an art educator, illustrator, fabricator of mythological fiber sculpture figures and storyteller. She describes her artistic process as an immersion into an elegant world of enchantment where one fantasy connects with the next resulting in a glimpse of an ethereal and magical world.
Jock’s background is an unusual combination of investments, marketing and sales, linguistics, theatre and writing. He received a BA in history/economics and a graduate degree in Latin American affairs/international marketing. Coming from a rich literary heritage, he has blended his writing with Martha’s storytelling and illustrations to create “The Legend of The Land of Caelumen” and all that will follow.
